However, at the study's conclusion, half of the test animals (3 to 6) died from the toxic effects of the drug. In the acetogenin-treated test group, tumors were reduced in size by 57.9% and there was no toxicity to healthy cells. (1)
In 1997, researchers at Purdue University and the NCI issued a report stating that acetogenins... “Can selectively inhibit the growth of cancerous cells and also inhibit the growth of Adriamycin resistant tumor cells.” In fact, according to their research, Graviola may be benefits in destroying abnormal cell growth. They further showed that acetogenins are not only highly potent, they are selective against various solid tumor lines, seeking out the abnormal cells and destroying them, while leaving the healthy cells intact. The documented research is so promising, that Purdue University in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health has filed at least nine patents on their work involving the anti-tumorous and anti-microbial uses of Graviola acetogenins.
